about

Runarslaget - The Runic Stroke - is a musical adventure based on a Norwegian medieval ballad about the power of music - a Norwegian and distinctive offshoot of the Greek myth of "Orpheus and Eurydice".
With the support of SISU, Øyonn has deepened and developed the old ballad material into a dramatic whole of rich contrasts with an exciting selection of percussion and string instruments. The forerunner of Runarslaget is the meditative work Runartromma from 2009, which Øyonn created for the Telemark Festival's 20th anniversary, also with the SISU percussion ensemble.

Øyonn Groven Myhren is a highly respected folk musician. She has won the national competition in vocal folk music three times, and composed large and small works for various constellations. She is central on a dozen music albums, and she has received the Spellemann Prize together with Odd Nordstoga for the work Nivelkinn. She can also look back on a nearly 25-year long collaboration with Bugge Wesseltoft.

SISU percussion ensemble is a spearhead in contemporary Scandinavian music. They maintain an impressive musical and technical level and their repertoire is wide. Since its establishment in 1993, the purpose has been to generate and promote new Norwegian music for percussion. SISU has initiated collaborations with a number of composers, collaborations that have benefited from their percussion and artistic expertise. This spring they released the
critically acclaimed album Twine with percussion music by Rolf Wallin. SISU is Tomas Nilsson, Bjørn Skansen and Bjørn-Christian Svarstad.
